The Day of Pentecost: 8 June 2025

Dearly Beloved Franciscans,
“The reason two antelope walk together is so that they can blow the dust out of the eyes of the other.” [African Proverb]
This feels like an aspect of the Pentecost story too! Other than the flames which appear on that 1st Pentecost, there is a wind too which blows open the doors & windows… the hearts and minds of those first disciples. Surely the Holy Spirit still blows the “dust” out of our eyes, the cobwebs from our minds, thereby enabling a greater freedom to see God & to be available to God ministering through us!
We thank God’s Spirit for calling and empowering those who shall be licensed today to the particular church ministries of being Servers and Preachers. May they be blessed through these sacred ministries. And likewise, may this Pentecost anoint us all in meaningful ways. P.s. if you’re able to wear something red on Sunday to celebrate Pentecost this would be a joy…. but not essential since the Holy Spirit’s very self is sufficiently joyful.
