First Sunday after the Epiphany 12 January 2025

Dearly Beloved Franciscans,
In our COLLECT for Sunday, we have these amazing words: “liberating the future from the past”. On one level, does this not contradict God’s injunction to Jews and to Christians to “remember”? In particular, we think of remembrance in terms of the Exodus story and in relation to the Eucharist. And yet….when we see the words about liberating our future from our past is the invitation in this about letting God release us from our past issues, attitudes & “baggage” – a freeing up for more of God’s Life & less of whatever diminishes, poisons & distorts us & affects others. The COLLECT seems to imply that when we delight in God, who is our “soul’s delight”, then this may well become a fruit thereof. How I yearn for this to manifest in the Middle East & in other parts of the world, as I’m sure do you.

Let us join together in delighting in God at Sunday’s 8.30am Eucharist which is both ONLINE and IN-PERSON this Sunday.
