Dearly Beloved Franciscans

As we hear the Hebrew Scripture Reading this Sunday about Elijah and Elisha, I am struck by the invitation that this holds for so many of us in the second half of life.  Elijah trained and mentored Elisha into the vocation of a prophet of God for Israel. The mantel that falls from Elijah to Elisha is a metaphor for this precious passing on of the baton.  Who is God pointing out to us that we need to mentor and to whom do we need to pass on the “mantle”?

As we value the seasons of creation and the seasons in our lives, may we cherish our Sunday Service.
