Dearly Beloved Franciscans, on Sunday, as we savour the story of Jesus turning water into wine, I wonder how many of us are even aware of his presence in our great life-celebrations, or… are we partying too hard?! There have been times in my life, for example at a wedding reception, when I’ve found myself sitting at a table and pausing in wonder as I’ve suddenly become deeply aware that the diverse group of people at the same table, of varying ages & backgrounds (many of whom are strangers to one another) are all getting along famously: chatting, laughing listening, exchanging life- stories & sharing their connections with the bridal couple. Surely, this harmonious relationality and mutual positive regard is also (even if only momentarily) a metaphor for a wedding-miracle.
Let’s keep on offering our “water” to Jesus and let’s permit ourselves to be transformed into “wine” for the joy of others!
