Church Inclusive: Patronal Festival, 1 October 2023

Dearly Beloved Franciscans

About 8 years ago, I had the indescribable privilege of going on a Franciscan Pilgrimage, facilitated by a Franciscan brother, which included all of the towns associated with St Francis of Assisi in the province of Umbria, Italy.  The most disappointing one for me, in a way, was the Basilica in Assisi itself where the earthly remains of Francis and some of his companion brothers are apparently buried.  The ostentatious nature of the Basilica along with the over the top art and artifacts seemed so painfully out of kilter with  the simplicity and poverty that Francis embodied. His life, more than 800 years later, still speaks for itself with no need for extraneous “things” to highlight him.  How do our lives “speak” into our world today?

It is a joy to share in our Patronal Festival as a community who takes seriously our Franciscan charism.  If you are able to join us after the Service on Sunday for a bring-and-share brunch, this would be a great blessing.
