Dearly Beloved Franciscans

Compassion always presupposes a level of kindness too.  And kindness in some way suspends self-absorption and extends to the other in a benevolent, relational, and attentive way. Without the kindness of compassion, frightening and violent scenarios, like we are witnessing in Cape Town, can all too easily explode, self-perpetuate and infect more and more of life. In August as the liturgical Month of Compassion we are reminded of the power of compassionate living.
