Church Inclusive: Forth Sunday After the Epiphany 30 January 2022
Dearly Beloved Franciscans
With things looking so ugly on the border between the Ukraine and Russian and the escalating violence in Northern Mozambique, we need to ask ourselves, “What gives anyone the right (including myself) to take violent , unsolicited ownership over people, places, countries?” Surely , “the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, the world and all who live in it”? (Psalm 24 : 1). We are but visitors here who are entrusted in a share of the care of all life on this planet , irrespective, in mutual collaboration with God. Our faith proclaims that , in the words of Thomas Berry (RC priest and geologian) “the universe is a communion of subjects, not a collection of objects”; let’s enflesh this for the sake of God’s peace and hope.
