Church Inclusive: Second Sunday After the Epiphany 16 January 2022

Dear Franciscans

Once again the church, or is it God in some people’s minds, was brought into disrepute this week as we read and heard of a pastor whose bill for one night in a club amounted to R1.3 million.   Remember that Jesus was accused of being a drunkard and a glutton because he was often at people’s homes during a meal. And this weekend’s Gospel of the first miracle which Jesus performed publicly , i.e. turning water into wine , may confirm this accusation that the church leaders levelled against Jesus.  However, we need to remember that there is a vast chasm of difference between the pastor’s focus, intention and behaviour and Jesus’s and on what constitutes a “good time”!  For Jesus , it always seems to be about building relationships with people in such a way that their relationship with God is grown and deepened. What does a “good time” in your life reveal to others about God?

We look forward to sharing in a good time together in mutual fellowship and communal Eucharist on Sunday at 8.30 am whether online or in-person.
