St Francis’ energetic music ministry!

Music at worship

Music plays an important part in St Francis’ two Eucharist services on Sundays. The music at the 07h30 service is led by four gifted organists – Jonathan van Rensburg, Claire Armstrong, James Ridley and Judith Kinnaird.

Our music for the 09h30 service is drawn from a rich variety of sources, and includes traditional hymnody, choruses, modern hymns, and Taize and African songs. The music is chosen and led by St Francis’ Music Director, Ruth Coggin, assisted by Mike Montgomery on trumpet.

St Francis Singers

St Francis Singers, a vibrant and growing group of enthusiastic singers, meet weekly on Wednesdays from 18h00 to 19h00 to prepare to lead various services during the year. Led by Music Director Ruth Coggin, St Francis Singers also presents special programmes during the year.

Newcomers are always welcome to join. Anyone interested should contact Ruth on ruth@quo-vadis.co.za or on 082-903-5819.

Choral evensongs

Once a quarter, on a second Sunday evening, organist Kevin Kraak presents a sung Evensong. This beautiful service of worship includes a sung Magnificat and Nunc Dimitis.

Youth band

Families are a special focus when there is a fifth Sunday in a month through the family service at 09h30. The music at this service is led by the recently formed youth band.

St Francis as a centre of music excellence

St Francis parish is committed to the furthering of music excellence through regular concerts by leading South African musicians. Performances are presented in the beautiful sanctuary three or four times a year.
